Michael Burt, Vice President at The Conference Board of Canada, has stated that not only improving efficiency, but these AI tools have the potential to significantly increase labor productivity. He has also mentioned the acceleration of Canada's technology adoption that contributed to their economic growth. Organizations that are failing to harness these tools may fall behind competitors.

ChatGPT has garnered widespread attention since its launch in November 2022. This implies a shift in public interest toward AI. The report suggests that roles requiring a blend of writing and programming skills, such as those found in some STEM professions and knowledge-based roles, are most likely to be impacted by generative AI tools.

Despite the transformative potential, the report notes that the effective use of AI currently necessitates human knowledge and judgment. Thus, AI is expected to play a complementary role in the workplace, supporting rather than replacing individuals in their roles. Major job displacement is still very unlikely at this stage, as tools like ChatGPT are anticipated to enhance task efficiency and reshape existing roles.
