Jennifer believes that a transformational leader is not the conventional boss in an office operating setting, hierarchically command and control from top-down, executing work functions in decentralising mode by working in silo, and only focuses relentlessly on quarterly performance with initiatives and projects. Instead, it is about the mindset, not about digital or technology involved in the processes, which many organisational heads and business leaders have confused themselves and lost their ways during the transformational journey.
Jennifer advises to adhere to modern work management by applying principle of project management across all work on the entire enterprise and embrace changes quick enough before being wiped out by changes. She adds, transformational leaders must apply digital technology to foster humanity and togetherness in community instead of the other way round and be comfortable with ambiguity, develop a zest for learning, embody empathy and get stuff done and done right. She believes that, this is how a transformational leader is judged through her leadership, outcomes, work execution and cadence.
Jennifer says when innovating a product or a solution that appeals to market target audience, businesses need to evolve and change in order to adapt to their customers' behavioural needs through understanding the user experience, changing behavioural patterns and the latest market development and trends, understudying customers' wants and needs. The ultimate intent is to know what the customer wants to achieve by using that product; what kind of problems the customer is facing when using that product. Customers' feedback and usability testing are important aspects of user experience journey for product iteration.
In the past, technologists made solutions into product form, either tangible or intangible to sell, and products have evolved since then. Today, customers have their unique problems to solve that have to be interwoven into their organisational structure to form a part of their operational ecosystem. The old approach that has been adopted from the past, if it is to be cloned again to be used in today's context, might not be an ideal or appropriate solution to the customer's problem by providing a stand-alone product. Hence, the concept of customized solutions is born. Any business who can provide customized technological solutions will have an upper hand in winning the hearts of B2B or B2C clientele into buying solutions, she concludes.
Jennifer reviews that after COVID19, 360 HealthTech will divert back to solving eldercare-related issues to healthcare technology. The company has plans to expand overseas business collaboration and partnership with China's renowned universities to research and develop new AI technologies that will benefit both countries. Deploying artificial intelligence in robotics and automation and integrating machine learning, deep learning into internet of things, are the roadmap to solving eldercare challenges ahead.
The industry in future is full of opportunities ahead which solely depends on business leaders how the transformation and performance opportunities are embraced from data analytics and digitalization, particularly, the rapidly evolving opportunities in AI, robotics and automation. Business leaders not only need to invest in technology, but also transform their organizations with new mindsets, for instance, reimagine business models and business processes; test-experiment-learn-scale fast; digitalize assets and capabilities; stay calibrated and invest accordingly; integrate workers and machines to improve a new focus on human capital.
As an advice for emerging women leaders, Jennifer says that for them intending to excel in science and technology industry, the first deterrent factor is the mindset shift one must be willing to embrace, to adapt and to do more than what is expected. This means getting to the core of problem-solving alongside with counterparts to make that extraordinary efforts by improving any working processes which may cause obstruction to any technological projects an emerging women leader is undertaking.
When a multi-million-dollar technological business is built, it is extremely important to have hands-on experience on what can work and what cannot work to test the assumptions of any new or evolved scientific technological inventions or solutions to a problem. She further adds, that every emerging women leaders will have a different specialization which takes a long time to master in each field. And unicorns are hard to come by, particularly, tech women leaders who are unicorns. To overcome these shortcomings, Jennifer works with expertise from different technological specializations, and puts together a collaborative effort in order to move an ideation to realization stage. People management and resource allocation are some of the most challenging obstacles in the process of managing the success of these projects, which are also the real test of tech women leaders' emotional intelligence, people skills as well as perseverance on top of the very niche technological skills that they possess in order to move their technological initiative forward. Jennifer advices budding or emerging women leaders to be more courageous to adapt to changes and uncertainties, have the willingness to learn to work on things that is out-of-their-comfort-zone and work alongside with knowledgeable counterparts to gain first-hand perspective for better maneuvering of technological directions.
