The metaverse has gained lots of traction, Abu Dhabi to launch a Metaverse version of Yas Island

The entertainment capital of the UAE, Yas Island will go digital. The country has 200 islands in all but in 2023, there will be an addition of one more island. What is unique about it is that it is a digital island. Abu Dhabi is going to launch a Metaverse version of Yas Island as this entertainment arena comprises varied sections like theme parks, homes, malls, and aquariums. Moreover, it is accessible to a global audience. Metaverse is a platform that offers its visitors great-quality Virtual Reality (VR) experience.

The Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), in collaboration with the tech giants, has decided to transform twenty-five square kilometers of space into a digital arena. Once it is set up, the audiences can meet up or play games while exploring the digital island. And this initiative is confirmed to the media by the CEO of Miral, Mohammed Abdalla Al Zaabi.

He believes that Virtual Reality is the best medium for the worldwide audience to discover Yas Island in a new way. The visitors will be able to build virtual homes and theme parks. The main tourist attraction will be the Ferrari World, where they can get a chance to zoom around the world's fastest rollercoaster F1 racetrack.

The metaverse has recently gained a lot of attention on a global scale. Everyone now wants to know what it actually is and how it will work. The metaverse domain promises to provide an immersive virtual experience, with innovative methods for businesses to utilize its strengths to their profits. The metaverse is not yet fully developed, and tech experts are yet to strategize a proper definition for this domain, but we do have a basic understanding of what the metaverse will offer.

The term Metaverse was invented by Neal Stephenson in a science fiction novel, almost 30 years ago. He envisioned lifelike avatars who met in 3D buildings and other virtual reality environments. Over the past couple of years, the metaverse has begun representing a progressive convergence of digital experiences. This upcoming domain is perceived as a graphically rich virtual space, with some degree of multi-dimensional aspect that will allow people to work, play, shop, socialize, and bring humans back together in this virtual world.

Big tech companies are building metaverse projects to utilize the benefits of the metaverse. Companies like the Meta Platforms build in the metaverse by using its world-leading software and solutions. Other big tech companies are building blocks with the help of advanced technologies like augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality. The digital world is garnering millions of dollars' worth of investment to foresee the future of the internet.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft boss Satya Nadella are some of the other proponents who are envisioning a deeper and more immersive experience that marries a host of other existing technologies, such as VR headsets. These tech giants are futurists who look forward to the development of this 3D world through 3D gadgets or wearing AR glasses. A new wave of AR, VR, and MR headsets are expected from Meta, Sony, Apple, and from all those companies who are looking to monetize the metaverse and gain massive benefits from it.

In practice, the metaverse will also exist as a huge virtual shopping mall that can be experienced by as many people as the digital domain can fit. People can purchase a unique digital item, and then sell the same digital item after a few weeks inside a completely different world than the ones they purchased it from. The infrastructure behind today's internet allows massive quantities of people to gather in virtual environments. Even though the current infrastructure is very impressive, it will likely evolve further to support the metaverse industry.
