According to sources, individuals with direct knowledge of the matter have stated that billionaire Elon Musk hires AI researchers with a proposal to establish a new research laboratory focused on creating a ChatGPT alternative. The Information reported on Monday that Musk, who co-founded non-profit startup OpenAI with Silicon Valley investor Sam Altman in 2015, has expressed his admiration for the chatbot, calling it "scary good" despite leaving its board in 2018. The report further suggests that Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk is currently in discussions to hire Igor Babuschkin, a former researcher at Alphabet's DeepMind AI unit, to spearhead the development of a high-profile chatbot rivaling the one created by OpenAI.
In an interview, Babuschkin revealed his expertise in the development of machine-learning models utilized in chatbots like ChatGPT, which has already demonstrated its proficiency in tasks such as passing MBA exams, composing prose and poetry, and is gradually taking over jobs in the US. Babuschkin clarified that Musk's intention is not to create a chatbot with fewer content safeguards. The report cited an interview with Babuschkin, indicating that he and Musk have discussed the formation of a team to pursue AI research, but the project is still in its initial stages, with no definite plans for specific product development.
During the World Government Summit held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, earlier this month, the billionaire Elon Musk warned that AI poses a significant threat to the future of civilization. Musk emphasized that while AI has tremendous potential and capabilities, it also carries a significant danger. "With great promise and capability comes great danger," he said. Notably, Musk was a co-founder of OpenAI in 2015, but he has since parted ways with the company.
