ChatGPT Reaches 200 Million Weekly Users Globally

The latest iteration of OpenAI's ChatGPT, known as ChatGPT-4, has experienced considerable growth since its launch in 2022. As of the past month, the platform has witnessed a dramatic increase in active weekly users, reaching over 200 million, a substantial rise from the 100 million recorded a year prior.

This surge underscores the burgeoning popularity of AI applications, as demonstrated by OpenAI's financial achievements, with its revenues tripling to US$1.6 billion in 2023 from US$100 million in the previous year. The user demographic of ChatGPT is notably diverse, with a significant presence among younger demographics.

Furthermore, ChatGPT-4 has been engineered with a heightened level of caution, evidenced by a notable 82 percent decrease in the generation of responses to content deemed inappropriate, compared to its earlier version. In terms of geographical distribution, the United States emerges as the leading market for ChatGPT, closely followed by India, indicating the widespread acceptance and accessibility of the technology on a global scale. The cornerstone of ChatGPT's functionality is its vast corpus of data, which spans 300 billion words, essential for its ability to provide precise and contextually relevant responses. The transition to GPT-4 signifies a significant advancement in accuracy and the capability to engage in multimodal interactions, including the comprehension of textual and visual content.

Nigerian SEC Crackdown on Unlicensed Crypto Businesses

The Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has declared its commitment to intensifying efforts against unlicensed cryptocurrency enterprises that are preying on the Nigerian populace. This declaration follows a mere fortnight after the SEC granted authorization to two cryptocurrency exchanges, with a pledge to evaluate applications from other entities in a similar capacity. The SEC's objective is to safeguard investors while fostering an environment conducive to innovation.

To achieve this equilibrium, Emomotimi Agama posits that Nigeria requires a definitive regulatory framework and comprehensive education for participants in the market.

The Commission also declared its intention to start enforcement action against those unlicensed cryptocurrency entities that actively solicit Nigerian citizens. Director General Emomotimi Agama has stated that the regulator will pursue these measures to ensure the protection of investors.

This declaration was made in the wake of less than two weeks since the SEC approved two digital asset exchanges. In a report by Bitcoin.com News, the SEC showed its openness to considering other license applications presented before it under its ARIP while warning the public against dealing with unlicensed entities.
