Taking Drone Technology to the Next Level By Making Them Multi-Functioning

Published on

Researchers are taking robot and drone technology to the next level by making them 'multi-functioning'. Recently, a team of researchers at the Beihang University, working with their colleagues at the Imperial College of London and Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology has developed a new drone that can fly, swim, and hitch a ride on surfaces. In fact, within less than a second, the drone can go from powering through the water to taking a flight. Well, the creators themselves are quite astonished by their own innovation.

In recent years, quadcopters have become a consumer product, and while the technology behind the creation of a quadcopter is quite complex, yet exciting, they have always possessed one drawback, which is their inability to land in the water. But with this latest innovation, researchers have overcome that issue and have given quadcopters and drones the new ability to trade over and underwater, as needed.

If this technique is integrated into drone technology, these machines will not only be able to fly but would also hitch a ride, if required. These drones also have a suction cup that enables them to attach themselves to other fish, sharks, and even whales! Researchers have created a suction disk that would enable the drone to perform such tasks.

Well, in a nutshell, it seems like robotics and drone technology will become more influential as recent developments by researchers and scientists will prove quite successful.
