To make the search process easier for Android users Google has developed a new AI option called Gmail Q&A. Using Gemini, a person can use this feature to make the AI scan the users’ emails for specific information. This feature was previously only available in the latest web version of Gmail and currently, it is present in the Android app and the same is in the process of being rolled out to the iPhone version of Gmail as well.
With the help of this feature, one can find emails that are unread, mails sent by specific senders, and even a short summary of the email. For it, the user has to be logged in to the Google Workspace account and can either click the Gemini icon at the top right of the app or use the “summarize this email” chip in a thread.
The latest addition of AI tools to Gmail is the Gmail Q&A which helps in better search of inbox. Specifically, this feature is available only for the users of Google Workspace who are subscribers of services like Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium, and Google One AI Premium. The triggering of this feature has already been launched and all the qualified users shall be reached within 15 days. First implemented in the Gmail app for Android, it will expand to iOS soon.
One of the usability features of Gmail is the Q&A feature that helps to organize emails by minimizing the time spent on finding information and summarizing emails. It saves time that would have been spent trying to go through emails to find specific messages, especially for those who have an overwhelming number of emails. This feature is going to expand its service to include Google Drive search; this will greatly assist the Workspace users.
Over the years Google has made substantial enhancements to Gmail with a few of them being unveiled in this article. Smart Compose was launched in 2018 together with Smart Reply which was launched in 2017 and aimed at integrating AI to help the user to compose and reply to emails respectively. In 2020 Gmail received a new redesign with an emphasis on integrating it with Google Chat and Google Meet which is part of a larger trend in the company of renaming their suite of office tools Google Workspace.
Furthermore, Google has consistently enhanced its protection measures as regards to Gmail against spam, phishing, as well as other related threats; in the same way, the linking up with Google Drive was made stronger in 2021 to make it easier to share files with contacts and access files within the Gmail platform. The updates mentioned above show the constant focus of Google to use artificial intelligence and integration to increase the productivity and efficiency of the users.
