Marking a significant step, Apple is increasing involvement and attention towards Artificial Intelligence (AI and the firm is set to join OpenAI on its board as a collaborator, a partnership that was unveiled last month.

The news indicates that Phil Schiller, serving as Apple's App Store executive and previously in charge of the company's marketing strategies, will take up the role of an observer on the board. Although observers do not have voting privileges or other formal board member rights, they can participate in board meetings, offering crucial perspectives on the organization's strategic decisions.

This advancement represents a major turning point in the world of artificial intelligence. Although the details of the collaboration are not yet public, Apple's participation indicates a deliberate move to incorporate sophisticated AI technologies into its offerings. Apple has recently revealed plans to incorporate OpenAI's ChatGPT into its offerings.

The partnership between Apple and OpenAI could be advantageous for both entities. Apple's extensive resources and customer base could offer OpenAI the opportunity to enhance its AI research, while OpenAI's innovative technology could give Apple a competitive advantage in the fast-changing AI industry.

The announcement comes shortly after OpenAI expanded its leadership team, which saw the addition of CEO Sam Altman, former CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Sue Desmond-Hellmann, and CEO of Instacart Fidji Simo, among others.

In the Global India AI Summit 2024, when asked about OpenAI’s commitment to fund India’s AI Mission and application development initiatives, Srinivas Narayanan the vice-president of the company gave a positive response. During his speech at the world summit, Narayanan stressed on the importance of the Indian market and stated that the decision-making process of OpenAI considers India of high importance in formulating policies.

He urged Union Ministry of Information and Technology to keep the discussion going on the possible collaborative business opportunities. Narayanan demonstrated how AI is changing the world for better or worse and has accelerated India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem by making intelligence cheap and opening the door to building complex applications.

Also, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also joined the occasion emphasizing mutual responsibility to address  the proper use of AI.
