WhatsApp is enhancing the way users interact and organize chats with its new Custom Lists feature, now rolling out globally. This update allows users to create customized lists of contacts and groups, improving the ease of accessing specific chats. Building on the recently introduced Favorites feature, which lets users mark important chats for quick access, Custom Lists offers a new level of organization by enabling users to categorize contacts into tailored lists like “Family,” “Work,” “Friends,” and more.
In a blog post on Thursday, WhatsApp confirmed that the Custom Lists feature would be available to all users within the coming weeks. With Custom Lists, users can include both one-on-one chats and groups in separate lists to streamline communication and reduce clutter. This feature appears alongside other tabs in the chat filters bar, such as All, Unread, and Groups, making it easy for users to view and manage their lists at a glance.
Creating a custom list on WhatsApp is straightforward. By clicking on the “+” icon within the filter tab, users can name their new list and then add any contacts or groups they wish to categorize under it. These lists can be adjusted at any time, giving users complete control over their chat organization. To edit a list, users simply need to long-press the list name within the filter bar.
WhatsApp’s latest feature is expected to be especially useful for users who frequently navigate between various groups and personal chats, as it offers an efficient way to keep conversations organized. For those managing a large number of contacts, the Custom Lists feature provides a more streamlined way to access and prioritize important conversations.
In addition to the Custom Lists rollout, WhatsApp is reportedly testing several new features, which could bring even more functionality to the app. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is exploring options to allow users to create and customize sticker packs. This would include options like “Add to Sticker Pack,” “Add to Favorites,” and “Edit Sticker,” enhancing personalization within the app.
Moreover, WhatsApp is also reportedly working on the camera capabilities of their app which would allow their users to add filters, backgrounds and effects which can be found in the privacy settings of the app. If these are brought in, that would allow the users to have more tools with which to modify their photos and videos without having to leave the application WhatsApp.
The Custom Lists feature and similar See Updates showcase what is the persistence of the development of the WhatsApp application. The company seeks through the enhancement of organizational features of chat that WhatsApp is a multipurpose communication tool that can meet the different usage needs of its users.
