Microsoft released a suite of AI-powered capabilities as part of its Copilot Wave 2, which Nadella calls "the UI for AI."
It features over 700 product updates and 150 new features and is powered by the latest OpenAI GPT-4o model.
Copilot is now deeply integrated throughout Microsoft's core productivity tools, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneDrive.
At the helm of the list of updates was Copilot Pages, a new tool only for Microsoft 365 subscribers. Now, referred to as BizChat, aggregates insights from work data for smooth team collaboration.
Using Copilot Pages, users can edit, share, and analyze results with teammates seamlessly. This feature enables you to browse the internet for the relevant information needed for multiplayer AI collaboration, thereby streamlining the decision-making process for organizations.
Among the other exciting updates is the integration of Copilot in Excel and PowerPoint. Now Microsoft PowerPoint users can create whole presentations, generate images, and also receive design suggestions. Thus, they can build professional slides in just a matter of minutes. All this has been brought into Excel with a Python-backed Copilot. This allows its users to automate data analysis and suggests relevant formulas to the users while visualizing complex data sets. These advanced features are only available to paid subscribers of Microsoft 365.
In Teams, Copilot will summarize discussions during a meeting and then provide significant insights found in those discussions. With Outlook, managing the inbox is much easier with Copilot as it can prioritize important emails and give a summary of what they contain.
In OneDrive, users can now rapidly search files but also compare contents between similar files to facilitate more insights. These updates will be up and running by the end of September, with some features will roll into early next month.
Another buzz at the event was the Copilot Agents, customizable AI assistants designed to do specific tasks with minimum human intervention. They can automate monotonous workflows and enhance productivity by streamlining operations. Thus, proving resourceful for organizations seeking to optimize their processes.
