CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled Meta’s most recent creation Orion AR glasses at Meta Connect 2024.
He called the glasses a "time machine" for users that would combine the physical and digital worlds.
He rolled out Orion, Meta's first working prototype of augmented reality glasses that overlay holographic images in the real world.
"This is the physical world with holograms overlaid on it," Zuckerberg commented as he demonstrated the glass features.
The new features include hand-tracking, voice commands, and a wrist-based neural interface. Made from magnesium alloy and powered by custom silicon, these new glasses promise to redefine how users interact with their surroundings. And Meta says it plans to have a consumer-ready version by 2027.
Meta introduced the affordably priced Quest 3S mixed reality headset into the market to widen its consumer base.
The Quest 3S will hit the market on October 15, 2024. The headsets available with two different storage options would be priced at US$299.99 for smaller ones and US$399.99 for larger ones. The 512GB Meta Quest 3 would be priced at US$499.99.
He also announced that the older models, Quest 2 and Quest Pro would be discontinued.
Meta today is launching the first publicly open-source version of the Llama 3.2 model. It is designed to generate content from text and input images. Its multimodal capabilities promise an entirely new form of user experience on Meta's platforms and represent an important step toward the shift in generative AI.
