Google has officially unveiled its much-anticipated Gemini app in some regions for iPhone users. The app comes along with the release of other new features like Gemini Live. Gemini Live enables real-time, two-way voice conversations with AI.
A Reddit user from the Philippines shared screenshots and the details of the iOS version of the Gemini app. The app appears to mirror the functionality of the Android version with added convenience for Apple users.
The Gemini app is equipped with functionalities such as conversation-based interactions, web searches, generation of images, and making recommendations on all topics simultaneously. Among these, Gemini Live is an added feature to interact hands-free and based on voice.
Free versions of the app are powered by the advanced Gemini 1.5 Flash large language model from Google. Advanced variants of the Gemini 1.5 Pro are used for the paid versions. These versions of Gemini enable it to have dynamic conversations, work on essays, browse the net, and even generate AI images using multimodal capabilities.
Another addition to Google's AI capabilities is Gemini Live, which will let it compete with other voice-enabled virtual assistants. Once this is launched, iPhone users can enjoy enhanced AI conversations with real-time responses and personalised recommendations.
Apart from the regional restrictions on the app, users outside of the Philippines who attempted to access Gemini encountered availability restrictions. This is a reasonable indicator that the test phase Google is operating in right now might be geographically confined.
However, Google hasn't confirmed whether this is a pilot test or a soft launch. The social giant is yet to release a statement on the same.
Worldwide iOS users soon expect to get hold of one of Google's most promising and sophisticated AI services ever created.
