Samsung unveiled the second generation of its proprietary AI model, Gauss 2 at the Samsung Developer Conference Korea 2024 (SDC24 Korea). As per the company this AI model is designed to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence, Gauss 2 promises enhanced performance, greater efficiency, and a broader range of applications, particularly in boosting productivity in workplaces. Samsung's new AI model aims to assist workers with various tasks such as writing emails, translating content, and summarizing text—tools that are becoming increasingly essential in today’s fast-paced business world.
Gauss 2 comes in three variants: Compact, Balanced, and Supreme. Each model is tailored for different use cases. The Compact model is optimized for on-device performance, ensuring seamless integration and quick responses on mobile devices. The Balanced model offers consistent performance across a wider range of tasks, striking a balance between power and efficiency. Meanwhile, the Supreme model focuses on delivering the highest performance while being more cost-effective, catering to enterprises and users who require top-tier results without breaking the bank.
One of the standout features of Gauss 2 is its multilingual capabilities, with the AI supporting between 9 to 14 languages, depending on the model. This feature will be crucial for global businesses and users who require fast and accurate translation tools. Additionally, Gauss 2 also supports a variety of programming languages, further expanding its utility in software development. Samsung’s in-house coding assistant, ‘code.i,’ is another significant addition to the platform, helping developers write and debug code more efficiently.
Paul Kyungwhoon Cheun, President and CTO of Samsung's Device eXperience (DX) Division, spoke about Gauss 2’s potential to enhance productivity both within Samsung and for its customers. He stated, "With three distinct models, Samsung Gauss 2 is already boosting our internal productivity, and we plan to integrate it into products to deliver higher levels of convenience and personalization."
However, Samsung’s recent third-quarter earnings report has unveiled that this electronics giant, while striving forward in its AI market expansion, has met certain problems in trying to seize the most of this sector as the competitors TSMC and SK Hynix have. However, with Gauss 2, Samsung appears to be ready to close it, providing solutions that can provide a competitive advantage for it within the developing AI market.
