Elon Musk's xAI has now released an application programming interface for its Grok AI chatbot. In a statement on October 21, 2024, Musk promised that at the end of August, the company would be turning Grok into a robust API.
The new feature allows users to create an API key within the xAI console. This helps to customize and integrate Grok AI throughout their applications. The pricing on input and output tokens remains steep, compared to other competitors. Thus, the pricing may serve as a barrier to more budget-conscious developers.
Developers can now create chatbot-style applications or add the functionality of a chatbot into existing applications using the Grok AI models.
Currently, there is only one model available, called "grok-beta,". However, the specification for it remains vague. It is also unknown if this is based on the recently released Grok-2 model.
Grok is pricing its APIs for around ₹420 million input tokens and ₹1,261 million output tokens. In other words, one million tokens equals about 750,000 words. At this level of pricing, xAI puts itself on a different scale than giants of the industry like OpenAI's ChatGPT or Google's Gemini.
A big feature of the xAI API is its support for function-calling. So, users can express their requests, and then the system will fetch the information needed. The Grok API, calls directly to the Grok AI model to find a response to the user’s given prompts and queries.
This new launch may be a reason why Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI is seeking a Hindi AI Tutor for ₹5,400 per hour.
The Grok API can be leading the way in this new, evolving landscape related to artificial intelligence as more people discover its capabilities. The Grok API has huge potential as a customizable product to open up exciting new developments in the world of AI.
