Apple enthusiasts have something to look forward to as reports indicate that the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, expected to launch in the second half of next year, will boast a major display upgrade.

According to a report from South Korean publication ETNews, citing industry insiders, all models in the iPhone 17 series will be equipped with LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) display technology. This shift is a substantial departure from Apple's current practice of limiting high refresh rate screens to only its Pro models.

High Refresh Rate Displays Across the Board

Currently, Apple’s ProMotion technology, which supports a 120Hz refresh rate, is reserved for the Pro versions of iPhones. This feature offers smoother scrolling, seamless animations, and enhanced gameplay experiences, all while optimising power usage. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models, by contrast, are capped at a 60Hz refresh rate, limiting their display responsiveness compared to their Pro counterparts. By implementing LTPO screens across the entire iPhone 17 range, Apple would be democratising one of its most coveted display technologies.

Enhanced Displays with LTPO Technology

The LTPO screen, sourced from Samsung and LG, not only supports higher refresh rates but also offers energy efficiency benefits, helping to extend battery life. This innovation could elevate the user experience for activities such as gaming and streaming, making the non-Pro iPhone 17 models more competitive. Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants had previously hinted that all 2025 iPhone models would include 120Hz ProMotion displays, aligning with the latest industry reports.

Speculated Model Variations and Features

As per the speculations, and dreamful imaginations, the iPhone 17 series will have a newer model named “Air’ which will be replacing the Plus version and serve as the lighter bet in the lineup. The Pro variants are anticipated to include the makers next A19 Pro chip with a RAM capacity of 12GB although the standard models, that is the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air are likely to be A18, A19 chip compatible with RAM size of 8GB. Further, the issued speculations indicate that all four versions within the series will have 24-megapixel forward cameras, aimed at improving the quality of the video call and selfies.

Conclusion

If these reports hold true, Apple’s iPhone 17 series could redefine expectations for display technology in smartphones. By bringing 120Hz LTPO screens to all models, Apple would be enhancing not only visual performance but also power efficiency for its users.
