Amazon CEO Andy Jassy says Prime Video now generates a revenue run rate reaching tens of billions of dollars. During Amazon’s October 29 earnings call, Jassy confirmed the streaming service has become profitable independently.

The announcement highlights Amazon’s growing entertainment business, supported by theatrical releases, popular shows and live sports.

Jassy described Prime Video as a significant business, adding that it is profitable 'in its own right.' The latest disclosure provides a clearer picture of the platform’s financial progress beyond its earlier profitability announcement. However, the revenue run rate represents an annualized pace, not confirmed earnings for an entire year.

Movies and Shows Strengthen Amazon’s Entertainment Business

Amazon MGM Studios has generated more than USD 1.2 billion in worldwide box office sales this year. Major contributors include Project Hail Mary and Verity, adding to Amazon’s presence in theatrical entertainment. Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, generated approximately USD 684 million worldwide after its March release.

The film also became Amazon MGM Studios’ highest-grossing release, marking an important milestone for its movie business. Jassy also highlighted popular series, including The Boys, Fallout, Reacher and The Summer I Turned Pretty. Season four of Reacher attracted 66 million global viewers during its first 28 days.

Live Sports Add Another Revenue Driver

Sports programming has also strengthened Prime Video’s audience, particularly through its Thursday Night Football coverage. The first six games of the 2026 season averaged 17.7 million viewers, representing 16% growth year over year. Amazon also streams NASCAR, the Masters, UEFA Champions League soccer and NBA games.

Amazon’s Hollywood expansion follows its USD 8.5 billion MGM acquisition in 2022, which expanded its entertainment portfolio. The company now combines streaming, theatrical releases and sports rights within one growing entertainment operation.

Prime Video’s profitability signals a major shift from its earlier role as a Prime membership benefit.

The latest disclosure positions entertainment as a substantial business within Amazon’s wider operations. However, Amazon has not shared an exact revenue figure or a separate annual earnings breakdown for Prime Video.
