NASA has started nurturing AI technologies, from multiple Silicon Valley tech giants like Google, IBM and Intel for further enhancement in space science. NASA is focused on levelling up the ante to study and research more about life in outer space with Artificial Intelligence in the nearby future. Leveraging Artificial Intelligence can provide some amazing unknown data for accurate prediction of the behaviour of the universe. NASA can utilise some smart functionalities like image recognition and many more through future telescopes and observatories. Silicon Valley tech giants are world-known for their constant innovation in Artificial Intelligence to enhance the traditional work system efficiently and effectively. Thus, NASA is partnering with these reputed companies to apply advanced machine learning algorithms for solving complex universal problems.
NASA owns a Frontier Development Lab, to innovate new cutting-edge AI technologies by pairing science and computer engineering students with professional innovators from the pioneer tech companies. Google, Intel and IBM are contributing multiple combinations of hardware, technical resources, funding as well machine learning algorithms to detect asteroids, planets or any other unusual activities in the universe. One FDL team has already developed an AI technology to study the atmospheres of exoplanets.
Google has helped with neural networks from Google Cloud, to solve complex problems within a short period of time. Another team built an AI technology that produces 3D models of asteroids with accurate shapes, sizes and other detailed information. This helped NASA to detect the behaviour of asteroids towards the Earth. Google has completed eight projects by leveraging Artificial Intelligence in NASA's productivity.
IBM, SETI and Lockheed Martin helped NASA in developing an AI technology to fill in the missing data from a broken sensor. This sensor stopped supplying essential real-time data of EUV radiation levels. Thus, the computer programme of IBM can analyse data from other SDO instruments to detect the EUV radiation levels efficiently.
NASA has also worked with Microsoft, to develop the software known as OnSight that allowed scientists to work on Mars in a virtual model. It utilises real Rover data for building a virtual environment of Mars for further exploration.
Safari provided a Secure Coding and Coding Standards training for NASA space and ground systems developers to navigate through books and video courses of implementation of AI technologies in developing secure software systems in the Safari library.
NASA has selected SpaceX, Blue Origin and Lockheed Martin to enhance spacecraft operation in very high temperatures to landing spacecraft vertically on the moon. Blue Origin is working on creating a navigation system with AI technology for safe and precise landing at a specific range of locations. SpaceX is focused on AI technology to move rocket propellant around from vehicle to vehicle in an orbit safely.
The rapid breakthroughs of Artificial Intelligence, have provided Data Science to comprehend space with satellite data as well as advanced computer simulations. These machine learning algorithms are accompanying astronauts to execute successful space missions within a limited period of time. The vast array of space can be easily studied and observed with the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in the traditional systems of NASA. Artificial Intelligence and Robotics can together build numerous robots, to help NASA explore outer space easily by avoiding space debris without any human intervention.
