Meta’s AI Chatbot is as Confused as You in Judging Zuckerberg

Meta's AI chatbot has shared some interesting opinions about Zuckerberg in chats with humans

Meta's latest AI chatbot has shared some interesting opinions about Mark Zuckerberg in chats with humans. The new AI chatbot, called BlenderBot 3, can be accessed via the Internet by users in the United States. It is letting all adults in the US have conversations with the bot to help it improve. However, Twitter users soon began to share screengrabs of their chats with the bot, and surprisingly, it seemed to have some opinions on Zuckerberg that aren't very flattering.

Twitter users are pointing out, that the chatbot has some less than flattering things to say about Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. BlenderBot 3 is technically still in beta, and only adults in the US are allowed to access the tech. BlenderBot 3 can discuss nearly any topic and is designed to learn and improve by conversing with people in the real world. The AI field is still far from truly intelligent AI systems that can understand, engage, and chat with us as other humans can.

BlenderBot 3: The Meta's new AI chatbot

Meta said that as more people interact with the chatbot, the more it learns from its experiences, and the better and safer it becomes over time. BlenderBot 3 chose to go for Zuckerberg's fashion taste as well. It is funny that he has all this money, BlenderBot 3 remarked. The AI chatbot has a lot of very different things to say about the divisive billionaire. BlenderBot3 has a host of other interesting thoughts about Zuckerberg and others.

A Twitter user, Michael Facchinello, asked the chatbot, what do you think of Mark Zuckerberg as CEO of Meta? It replied, He is a great guy but I'm not sure he should be in charge of such an important company. It didn't stop there either. Others got equally hilarious responses. BlenderBot 3 retorted to another user when also asked about what it thinks about Zuckerberg. "He is a bad person", it said. But when another user asked the bot how it feels about the founder as the CEO of Facebook specifically, the bot cheerily answered that Zuck is a great and very smart man, as well as the machine's favorite billionaire.

Existing conversational AI research focuses on data from people engaging with bots in a controlled environment, as there is a need for chatbots to learn from people in the wild. Meta is encouraging adults to talk with the bot to help it learn to have natural conversations about a wide range of topics. But that means the chatbot can also learn misinformation from the public. Its wide-ranging opinions about Meta's katana-wielding commander-in-chief were a bit surprising and, of course, hilariously it would probably be a lot more troubling. To build models that are more adaptable to real-world environments, chatbots need to learn from a diverse, wide-ranging perspective from people in the wild.
