UIDAI Warns of E-mail, WhatsApp Fraud Using Aadhaar

UIDAI Warns Against Sharing Aadhaar Documents on E-mail and WhatsApp

Aadhaar is one of India's most significant identification documents. The Aadhaar card contains vital information such as a person's name, address, portrait, biometric data, and other characteristics. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has now issued a caution against sending any Aadhaar-related papers through email or WhatsApp.

UIDAI altered the consumers' perceptions of the scam by posting on social media platform X (previously known as Twitter). "BewareOfFraudsters," UIDAI warned. UIDAI would never require you to send your POI/POA papers through email or Whatsapp to update your #Aadhaar. Update your Aadhaar card online at #myAadhaarPortal, or visit an Aadhaar centre near you."

The government has also advised Aadhaar card users to visit the UIDAI official website (http://uidai.gov.in) or download the Aadhaar app to get any Aadhaar-related information. Aadhaar card users can also visit their local Aadhaar centre for any updates.

How to Update Your Aadhaar Card Online

Follow these procedures to update your Aadhaar data online:

  • Navigate to the UIDAI website's Aadhaar Self-Service Portal.
  • Log in with your Aadhaar number, Captcha, and the One-Time Password (OTP) sent to your phone.
  • Navigate to the Document Update area and double-check the current details for correctness.
  • Select the correct document type from the drop-down menu and upload scanned copies of the original papers for verification.
  • Make a note of the service request number; it will assist you in tracking the status of your information updating procedure.
  • The UIDAI has also said that it would never request your Aadhaar OTP or mAadhaar Pin. The government agency has also cautioned Aadhaar card users not to divulge this sensitive information.
