We are living in an era where global industries are full of technological advancements that have helped enterprises to transform themselves to operate more efficiently through automated and effective models. The latest developments in technology are making way to connect businesses with their target audiences so that the enterprises can better serve them. The National Technology Day is celebrated to remind us, Indians, of the first step that India took to innovate something on its own; a bold step that the current generation and the upcoming generations will never cease to be grateful for.
The National Technology Day was first celebrated on May 11, 1999, to commemorate the first anniversary of the Pokhran Nuclear Test that was first conducted on May 11, 1998, by the Indian Army at the Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan. Since the success of the Pokhran Nuclear test, the country embarked on its journey to be recognized as a global nuclear power state, possessing two nuclear weapons. Since then, the Government conducted two more tests on May 13. All the tests were led by the late Indian President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Today, we celebrate technology day to not only remind ourselves of the talent and skill that is hidden in India, but also India's journey to becoming one of the fastest-growing IT hubs in the world.
Modern India focuses on science and technology, and it is one of the key drivers of its economic growth. India is now a hub of some of the most attractive destinations for technology transactions in the world. It is one of the topmost countries in the world in the field of scientific research and space exploration. Indian tech and non-tech companies are reaping the benefits of emerging tech domains like that of the metaverse and Web 3.0. Besides, as of 2021, India is a leader in crypto adoption, which is one of the finest technologies making strides in the financial and economic markets. Well, it is safe to say that humankind has been working hard to make sure that the future is tech-driven, and India is at the forefront of tech innovation!
It is a matter of great pride for the billions of citizens residing in the country that some of the leading global tech giants in the world are headed by Indian leaders. The art of being a great leader is to lead by example and Indian leaders have made their mark at the national and internal levels. India-born tech leaders are now increasingly taking bigger roles in the global technology companies and have proved their leadership capabilities in different ways.
Here are some viewpoints and observations from some of the greatest tech leaders about their recent initiatives to advance the Indian tech industry.
Today, technology has become all-pervasive and helps create needle-moving outcomes across all industries and governments as well. The development and adoption of solutions through advanced technologies, including intelligent automation, artificial intelligence, Metaverse, Blockchain, 5G, and Quantum Computing can impact one or more of the following: a) significant reduction in the cost of doing business b) increase in revenues through increased differentiation and c) higher customer delight. At Tech Mahindra, we are focused on leveraging next-generation technologies to enable end-to-end digital transformation for global customers and solve complex business challenges. Some relevant recent examples are:
We have launched TechMVerse, our Metaverse practice to deliver interactive and immersive experiences in the Metaverse for our customers. We launched 'Meta Village' to gamify learning. A part of TechMVerse, Meta Village will gamify the learning process for children in rural India thereby providing them with an opportunity to develop the crucial technical skills needed to become tomorrow's disruptors. Today Pargaon is India's first Meta village created by Tech Mahindra. We have launched amplifAI 0->∞ to democratize AI (artificial intelligence) for enterprises globally.
Navigating the post-covid world requires a certain level of digital literacy both in and outside of work. Speaking of work, remote and hybrid models have compelled employees to have at least an intermediate understanding of tech for their daily tasks. From tracking attendance to managing projects and frequent coordination with fellow teammates, a 2022 employee needs digital skills to get by on a daily basis.
At NLB Services, we are a team of 8000+ members across the globe. The onset of the pandemic scattered us even farther from each other but we've overcome geographical limitations through tech. We've held regular IT workshops and training sessions to ease our employees into remote working. Online team building activities and leadership interactions have also been conducted. Additionally, virtual fitness and entertainment sessions have also helped us to bring the team together from time to time.
Post pandemic, technology has become a mainstay for every sector and company. With deep tech innovations such as AI, IoT, ML and cloud computing becoming the norm, and technology being leveraged for even the most basic requirements, people lacking digital literacy will find it difficult to prosper in the new normal. Organisations need to focus on imbibing digital literacy and upskilling employees to participate in the tremendous growth opportunities available across sectors. At MediaTek, which is a global fabless semiconductor company, our employees are already well-versed in digital initiatives but we offer our associates the opportunity to further upskill themselves through dedicated technical training sessions and tech talks aimed at optimising their inherent potential.

India employs over 1.8 million women in Tech sector largely IT services, GCCs, Software Products and Tech Start-ups but gender diversity for senior roles in core product or tech services remains low both globally and in India largely due to various factors. India has seen significant improvement of Women participation in STEM across Tech Start-ups along with middle management roles in Tech services and Software product in the last 2 to 3 years due to Hybrid working models, Satellite office models, Remote roles however senior roles/CXO lacks gender diversity at less than 3-5%.
Industry players can definitely showcase women leaders as role models and also create defined career paths for women from coding to quality to managerial to service line head roles as that would encourage more women in STEM to aspire to grow to leadership roles. Marketing and HR function has done well and has over 5000+ women leaders but Tech Services, GCC and Tech Start-ups have a lot of work to improve this.
In this dynamic era of evolution, technology is the only constant, depending on which businesses survive and thrive. The use of technology has put the logistics sector out in front and made it a backbone of the economy. Tremendous growth has been seen through it and with innovations that result in even better efficiency, the sector looks to grow in folds.
One of the most important needs of the day is to build sustainable modes of personal transportation for the masses. While electric vehicles have entered the picture, the high cost of electric 2-wheelers makes them too expensive for the bicycle riding Indians. There are tens of millions of people across India who need smart, sustainable yet economical modes of mobility and that's where Motovolt is ushering in a revolution. We have introduced a range of smart e-bikes for urban, semi-urban and rural Indians. Motovolt has created an e-bike powertrain and technology platform in-house to enable micro-mobility operations. Our e-bikes are free from fuel price hike concerns as they are battery-operated. These are lighter and cheaper than the regular electric 2-wheelers and no license is needed to buy or ride one. Further, our lithium-ion batteries are the only ones in their category that come with fast-charging ability. We have introduced smart battery and vehicle telematics alongside cloud-connected remote monitoring and predictive maintenance to deliver a superior customer experience. Going forward, we anticipate fulfilling the mobility aspirations of millions of Indian commuters.
Throughout the pandemic, the Indian technology industry was instrumental in enabling both the global and Indian end-user to keep the lights on. We helped end-users live and work online and transform businesses into digital enterprises. In India, Aerospike and other leading technology companies are continuing to help by finding solutions for supply chain issues, online fraud, and increasing shopping cart size.
Technology developed in India: Many of the core server features of the product have been built in the India office. Further, much of the ecosystem and connectors have been designed and built here as well. As we all know, India is a large center for engineers and developers. Aerospike strategically leveraged some of the top engineers to create the Aerospike Database 6 which powers the Aerospike Real-time Data Platform and they continue to shape the future of the product.

There is a lot of pressure on infrastructure and resources when it comes to development in a country like India. In the last few decades, urban areas have expanded rapidly and haphazardly, and now that the adverse impacts of global warming are being felt, the need to reverse and reduce environmental damage is also emerging. One of the key technology integrations in this arena happens to be the development of Smart Cities. The future lies in building these self-sustaining communities which can reduce resource consumption and pollution alongside efficient management of all activities. For instance, Smart Cities are envisaged to use video AI, big data analytics, and IoT-based tools for monitoring and management of transportation, utility management, surveillance, and pre-emptive security landscape. It is through such integration of science and technology to foster sustainability that the vision of a socio-economically stronger Digital India will be realized in the years ahead.
Digital technology has emerged as the solution for all modern-day challenges across personal and business domains. In the last 23 years, the evolution of modern tech-driven businesses and public enterprises has been the catalyst in the socio-economic rise of the country. As we transition from an era of using technology as an option to the age of digital-first living, there is a need for businesses to focus security of digital assets as part of digitization initiatives. There are apps and tools for almost everything and the threat of cyber-attacks and data theft have become pronounced in the current context. That's where it is pertinent to innovate and create flexible technologies with an application-centric approach to securing the business and its users from cyber threats and gaining trust from the users to embrace digitization for a better experience. Though AI and analytics-based security monitoring and management services/solutions are critical., that by itself will not cut it and has to be backed with also working with experts to tweak, learn and update the models relevant to the application context for it to be effective. Companies need to be extremely alert and dynamically focus on the security of their technology assets as they go on to deliver value to the users. We look forward to continuous contribution to the cause by not just providing solutions to secure the applications but also back it with up security expertise to manage it on a continuous basis to help the business go digital fearlessly focusing on their core. The company is also focusing on making a difference to the people and all-around sustainable growth in the years ahead.

Electric vehicles (EVs) are one of the best technological developments of our time. By creating an EV ecosystem, it is possible to cut down significantly on the global greenhouse emissions and build a more sustainable future. The technology sector must pay greater attention to this arena. At Chargeup, we are building Bharat's largest battery-swapping network with a focus on supporting EV adoption in India Our Battery as a Service (BaaS) solutions are a lot more affordable and convenient for the users with no upfront cost. The batteries are monitored and managed using an AI-powered connected intelligence software that tracks the battery's health, and discharge status and also guides the EV to the nearest Chargeup swapping station when needed.
The pandemic highlighted how technology must play an even larger role in ensuring high-quality healthcare support to the masses. From the conventional practice of the patients going to hospitals for treatment, modern technologies have enabled robust remote and doorstep care delivery. This new model of care is revolutionizing the sector and also making it a lot more sustainable. Today, we are using the most cutting-edge tools and processes to optimize healthcare outcomes alongside devising ways to reduce medical waste which is averse to environmental wellness. Going forward, Portea Medical believes that innovation and evolution of health-tech will further make it possible to enhance the sustainability of healthcare operations globally.
Diagnostics are the backbone of modern healthcare, leading the way to prevention, treatment and cure. Given the centrality of diagnostics, this sector is seeing a boom in innovation. There are two thrusts, one is the development of novel sensors/assays/biomarkers that will help detect and manage diseases and the other is the simplification of diagnostics for easier, affordable testing. The latter allows for point-of-care testing at home or in a clinic, taking diagnostics to people in a convenient format. HealthCube is one such diagnostic solution that is transforming the testing paradigm. Basic health parameters can be measured on the HealthCube device for prevention and monitoring of non-communicable diseases. Whether a clinic, health kiosk, or a screening camp, urban, rural or remote area, HealthCube is deploying its devices to fulfill its mission of ensuring that diagnosis is within easy and convenient reach of billions of people.
Technology, innovation, and human expertise must go together in the digital age, especially in the healthcare sector. At Connect and Heal, we are leveraging technology to create a holistic end-to-end healthcare management ecosystem for the people. During this pandemic, we discovered that teleconsultation is a powerful medium to get access to high-quality health outcomes for the majority of the cases of both acute and chronic diseases. Similarly, we can enable better access and higher accountability of care using technology in health care. By bringing together doctors, paramedics, providers, emergency services like ambulances, working with corporates and payor – we have an unprecedented opportunity to create a technology-led change in healthcare delivery. As the national health stack gets operational and adopted, we can bring accountability of care, the choice for the patients and caregivers, interoperability for seamless continued care, and transparency using technology as the backbone of this transformation.
The logistics and transportation sector is witnessing a massive and multi-faceted technology-driven change. The need for sustainability and efficiency as well as the speed of operations has necessitated fundamental changes in operations. While electric vehicles tackle on-road problems like pollution and sustainability, it is the cloud-based transportation platforms and marketplaces that will transform the operational side of logistics. Vahak has built a robust tech-based marketplace in the form of a smartphone and web app wherein truckers, shippers, and manufacturers from all over India are able to find loads & lorries for their business. In the wake of the pandemic when logistics operations suffered significantly, Vahak emerged as a live transport market that kept the wheels rolling and has enabled greater earnings for the Indian logistics sector players. Going forward, technology is set to play a much greater role in the Indian logistics sector and make it competitive at the global level.
Technology is interwoven into our daily functioning, it has radically revolutionised the way we live.
