Samsung's One UI 6 update launched new AI-driven camera features to enhance the user experience

Samsung's latest update is poised to revolutionize the camera capabilities of Galaxy phones by incorporating cutting-edge AI features. The Samsung One UI 6 update, built upon Google's extensive Android 14 software, has already begun its rollout in select European countries and is set to make its way to the United States shortly. This update aligns with the growing significance of AI in the world of smartphones, a trend underscored by recent developments from industry leaders like Google and Qualcomm.

Samsung is taking inspiration from tech giants like Apple and Google by introducing AI-driven camera enhancements through the One UI 6 update. One noteworthy feature, "AI Image Clipping," allows Galaxy users to effortlessly extract objects from photos and transform them into stickers for use in other images. Apple introduced a similar function in its iOS 17 update for iPhones. Resizing a sticker after it's been applied to another image is also seen in a preview included in Samsung's press release; this feature is similar to Google's "Magic Editor" tool for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.

Moreover, Samsung is expanding upon its existing Galaxy Enhance-X app, known for its extra photo-editing tools. With One UI 6, the app receives fresh capabilities, such as "Sky Guide," which employs AI to identify constellations and stars in photos of the night sky. Users can now apply Samsung's "Single Take" feature in Enhance-X to both videos and motion images that they have already captured. Single Take is a camera mode on Samsung phones that allows users to capture multiple images in various styles with a single shutter button press. Within Enhance-X, the phone appears to discern the best stills and clips from existing images via Single Take. Additional features include the ability to sharpen images with blurred camera lenses and convert standard videos into slow-motion clips by generating extra frames.

Beyond these AI-driven enhancements, Samsung is striving to make camera usage more convenient. The update streamlines document scanning and simplifies the transition to higher-resolution shooting modes within the camera app. Users who frequently rely on specific camera modes, like panorama or portrait, can now save them directly to the home screen as widgets. Samsung is also revamping the layout of editing tools in the camera app and introducing undo and redo buttons for easier editing navigation.

Initially launched in beta for the Galaxy S23 in August, Samsung's new software has already made appearances in parts of Europe, as indicated by social media posts spotted by 9to5Google and Android Authority. A Samsung spokesperson confirmed that the update will soon be available to US devices in the coming weeks.
