Microsoft is incorporating an AI assistant called Copilot into Windows 11. Windows Copilot, like the Copilot sidebars we've seen in Edge, Office applications, and even GitHub, will be incorporated directly into Windows 11 and accessible from the taskbar across all apps and programs. According to Panos Panay, Microsoft's director of Windows and devices, once open, the Windows Copilot sidebar remains consistent throughout your apps, programs, and Windows, always there to function as your personal assistant. It elevates every user to the status of power user by enabling you to take action, change your settings, and seamlessly connect across your favorite apps.

The Windows Copilot can summarize, modify, or clarify what you're viewing in programs. It appears quite similar to the Bing Chat dialog box, so you may ask it basic queries and stuff you'd normally ask a search engine.

It will not replace the search bar on the Windows 11 taskbar directly but rather be a distinct Copilot button alongside it, similar to how Cortana had its own dedicated spot on the taskbar in Windows 10. According to Microsoft, Windows Copilot is a personal assistant, which sounds similar to how Microsoft marketed Cortana as a personal productivity assistant. Because Copilot is built into Windows, you may also ask for this assistance to adjust my settings so I can focus or do other operations on a computer. It's a lot more than the basic Bing Chat link put to the taskbar by Microsoft earlier this year.

Because Windows Copilot is based on the same grounds as Bing Chat, Microsoft is allowing developers to extend Bing or OpenAI's ChatGPT plug-ins to this AI-powered assistant. This opens up Windows Copilot to a slew of new features being developed for ChatGPT and Bing, as well as the possibility of future enhancements being automatically brought over to Windows Copilot. Microsoft has been teasing AI features in Windows for the past six months, after Panay's January assertion that Artificial Intelligence is going to reinvent how you do everything on Windows.
