In response to a global smartphone downturn, Apple has revealed a new iPhone 15 Pro with a titanium casing and a speedier CPU that enables better photos and mobile games.
The new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus start at US$1499 and US$1649, respectively, including GST. Ordering begins on September 15.
Prices for the Pro series begin at US$1849 and rise to US$2199 for the Pro Max, both of which will be available on September 22.
The Pro and other iPhone 15 versions will include a brighter display, a 48-megapixel camera, and recycled cobalt batteries.
According to Apple, the iPhone 15's satellite connectivity may now be used to request roadside assistance in the United States.
Apple said that USB-C charging cables would be available for the iPhone 15 and the charging case for its AirPods Pro devices, letting users utilize the same charging cords now used for iPads and Macs.
It will be powered by the same A16 Bionic chip that previously powered the iPhone 14 Pro.
The event at Apple's Cupertino, California, headquarters comes amid lingering economic uncertainty, particularly in China, Apple's third-largest market, where it faces challenges from expanded restrictions on using iPhones in government offices and Huawei Technologies' first new flagship phone in several years.
The statements mostly met expectations, and within the first hour of the event, shares were down 1.7 percent.
Apple said the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the company's biggest phone, will sport a new camera lens with a more excellent optical zoom than prior versions. A sequence of prisms is used in the lenses to simulate the performance of a longer lens.
Apple also stated that the new USB-C port on iPhone 15 Pro models will enable filmmakers to capture high-quality video directly to an external hard drive, making the phone more usable as a professional video camera.
Apple also stated that the iPhone 15 Pro can take "spatial videos" by combining two of the device's cameras to create a three-dimensional video.
According to marketing boss Greg Joswiak, such videos will be accessible on Apple's Vision Pro headset, which will be available early next year.
According to an Apple official, the firm employed machine learning to recognize a person in the frame, allowing users to instantly or later, via the Photos app, convert a photograph into a portrait.
Apple also unveiled a new Series 9 Watch with a "double tap" function that allows users to answer a phone call by tapping their thumb and finger together twice without touching the watch.
According to Apple Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams, it employs machine learning to identify minute variations in blood flow when the user taps their fingers together, freeing up the other hand for other chores like walking a dog or carrying a cup of coffee.
Apple CEO Tim Cook also stated that the Vision Pro mixed-reality headset is "on track" to be released early next year.
While Apple is constantly releasing new features and products, the iPhone accounted for more than half of Apple's revenues last year, totaling US$394.3 billion ($613.7 billion).
