How Does Google Smart Compose Feature Work?

Google will release its Smart Compose feature for Google Chat on Web next month

Google Smart Compose, a feature in Gmail that uses machine learning to interactively offer sentence completion suggestions as you type, allowing you to draft emails faster. Building upon technology developed for Smart Reply, Smart Compose offers a new way to help you compose messages — whether you are responding to an incoming email or drafting a new one from scratch. Now, this feature will be available in Google Chat.

Simply begin composing a message in Google Chat to use Smart Compose. Smart Compose will provide pertinent term suggestions in the right-hand pane as you type. By pressing Tab or Enter, you can accept a recommendation; alternatively, you can disregard it and input your text.

By default, Smart Compose is on, but you may turn it off if you'd rather. Open Google Chat settings and uncheck the box next to "Enable Smart Compose" to accomplish this.

According to the blog post:

1.Google Smart Compose uses machine learning as its power source, it grows better with each use.

2.The Smart Compose feature in Google Chat on the web comes in addition to already existing smart reply, an assistive tool that suggests short replies to messages.

3.The feature will be available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian.

4.Admins: There is no admin control for this feature. Smart compose in Chat respects the user's smart features and personalization settings. A default value of this setting can be controlled by admins. Visit the Help Center to learn more about turning on or off Gmail, Chat, and Meet smart features and personalization.

5.End users: This feature will be ON by default and can be disabled by unchecking "Enable predictive suggestions as you compose a message on web and desktop" under smart compose within Chat settings.

"Many rely on Chat for their immediate communication needs while juggling competing priorities. This feature helps you compose messages faster and easier, saving time and effort," the company said

Smart Compose personalized suggestions are tailored to the way you normally write, to maintain your writing style. Only you see your own private, personalized suggestions for your account. No other users, including administrators for your organization, can see your personalized suggestions. When personalization is turned off, you see generic suggestions as you type.
