Read this article to learn how to protect other innovative tech IoT devices from attacks.

The growing importance of technology in our lives has enabled the creation of smart cities and smart homes. Disruptive technologies like AI and Blockchain have revolutionized industries through their far-reaching capabilities. Another innovative tech that has redefined our lives is the Internet of Things, or as we usually address it, IoT.

What is IoT?

A scenario where a large number of devices are connected over the internet and are capable of collecting and sharing data is called IoT. These devices are connected through IoT sensors, making them capable of collecting real-time data and sharing it through the internet.

Although IoT is disrupting our lives, it has a wide surface area of attack. IoT increases data vulnerability since it collects abundant data from both physical and virtual systems. If not properly secured, IoT devices could become an easy target for hackers and cybercriminals.

Securing Your IoT Network

Strong Passwords: Devices connected to the Internet of Things should be secured before joining it to the network. To do so, use strong passwords, update the security software of these devices, and encrypt and authenticate the device.

Change Default Passwords: Many IoT devices come with default passwords, and cybercriminals probably already know these default passwords. It means you should change your default passwords to thwart vulnerable access to your Internet of Things devices.

Create Guest Networks: Securing network connection and Wi-Fi with strong passwords is crucial. It also becomes essential to create guest networks to prevent hackers from accessing the connection, ensuring the security of your IoT devices.

Check Default Setting: Many IoT devices come with default privacy and security settings. You must consider checking and changing them to avoid any uncertainty and cyberattacks. Some default settings could benefit the device manufacturer.

Keep Updated Devices: Similar to mobile updates, Internet of Things device makers may send you updates to update and install new security software. You can also visit their websites to check updates and protect your devices.

So, once you turn to smart IoT devices, privacy and security are very crucial.
