How Mechanical Engineering Can Provide Automotive Career Choices

Mechanical Engineering Choosing mechanical engineering can open up a wealth of opportunities in the automotive industry. Investing time and money in developing your skills is recommended if this is an area of interest to you.

Securing a future career

Many jobs and careers are uncertain in today’s economic climate, but by studying your Masters in Lean Manufacturing online at an institution such as Kettering University, you can expand your opportunities. While you can’t avoid job losses, there will always be new opportunities open to you, and you can fit your study around your other commitments.

Automotive design

As an automotive designer, no two days will be the same. You will rely on your knowledge and creativity to design a range of vehicles; from cars and trucks to motorcycles. Figuring out the best materials and components to create the perfect balance between appearance and performance will be part of your job. If you’re looking for a career where you get to be creative, this may be the role for you.

Mechanical engineer

If you pursue a career in mechanical engineering, you will be responsible for producing the specifications from innovative designs. You’ll also be responsible for the installation of components, rigorous testing, and interpreting data, alongside many other tasks. It’s a great career choice for anyone who is technically minded and fascinated by how things work and doesn’t want a repetitive job.

Vehicle installation engineer

As a vehicle installation engineer in the automotive industry, you could be helping to do anything from designing vehicles to installing parts and performing risk assessments. However, your skills may be suitable for other engineering opportunities too. Even if you decide this isn’t the role for you, you will always have options to either transfer your skills or retrain in a similar role in an alternate industry. This is just another reason why investing money in your qualification is worth it. Few people can say they have as many career options from one qualification.

Vehicle durability engineer

This is an excellent role if you like to travel. You’ll be testing out the durability of different vehicles, much like in some of the other roles, but to a greater extent. As this will be your main task, it’s unlikely all your work will be done in one location. You will probably be required to travel to different areas to test out vehicles. If you prefer variety and travel, over being stuck in the same location every day, this might be your ideal role.

Homologation engineer

In this role, you will manage the entire process, through the design phrase, while keeping track of progress made in meeting targets. The word homologation means ‘to approve.’ You will be responsible for ensuring all the work completed by your team meets safety regulations and technical requirements, before approving it. You will be a valuable member of the team, and others will often look to you for guidance. As you can see, just one master’s degree can open enough doors to ensure you always have career choices and financial security. The automotive industry is continually progressing, and you can play a part in that.
