OpenAI's new GPT-4 AI model has made its major premiere and is now powering everything from a virtual volunteer for the vision impaired to an enhanced language learning bot in Duolingo. So, what distinguishes GPT-4 from earlier releases like ChatGPT and GPT-3.5? Here are the top 5 ways GPT-4 can outsmart OpenAI's ChatGPT.
Images may be provided to GPT-4, and it will analyze them to uncover pertinent data. Of course, you could just ask it to describe what's in the image, but more significantly, its comprehension extends beyond that. But, the collaboration with Be My Eyes, an app used by blind and low-vision people to let volunteers describe what their phone sees, is more telling. The example given by OpenAI has it describing the joke in a picture of a ridiculously enormous iPhone connection.
Users kindly provided OpenAI with malicious prompts throughout the past year or so, which were used to train GPT-4. Taking these factors into consideration, the new model performs far better than its forerunners in terms of "factuality, steerability, and refusing to wander outside of guardrails."
The maximum token count for GPT-4 is 32,768; if you're wondering why the figure appears familiar, it's because it's 215. This equates to around 64,000 words or 50 pages of text, which is sufficient for a whole play or short narrative.
GPT-4 makes a step towards achieving this by proving that it can answer thousands of multiple-choice questions with high accuracy across 26 languages, from Italian to Ukrainian to Korean. The Romance and Germanic languages are where it excels, but it generalizes well to others.
Users will be able to alter the "basic ChatGPT personality with a set verbosity, tone, and style" in GPT-4 to something better suited to their requirements. GPT-4 integrates steerability more naturally than GPT-3.5. The crew quickly adds, "Within boundaries," seeing this as the simplest method to persuade the model to deviate from character.
