Following a rushed Bard launch, Google's CEO Sundar Pichai is attempting to rebuild faith in ChatGPT's rival at least among co-workers. Pichai writes in an email obtained by CNBC that workers must test the AI-powered chatbot as ChatGPT's popularity and potential business grow rapidly. The email comes just a week after Google introduced Bard, its own AI chatbot whose early demo provided inaccurate answers. Following the demo, Google's stock plummeted, sending stakeholders and investors into a frenzy.
Pichai has also requested employees to devote two to four hours of their time to improving Bard's technology. According to reports, the corporation will offer a detailed strategy next week. He reminded them that Google hasn't always been the first to introduce a product, but that hasn't stopped it from winning.
Pichai reportedly stated in the company-wide email that this is an "uncomfortably exciting" time, referring to Bard's launch debacle. Some of our most successful items did not hit the market first. They acquired traction because they addressed critical customer demands and were founded on profound technical knowledge."
Google was referencing its dominant position in the search business. Several search engines existed in the early 2000s, but Google now controls 90% of the market. It is also not the creator of Android, despite purchasing it at an early stage. The market was led at the time by Blackberry and Nokia custom OS (operating systems), but Android now has the greatest mobile OS market share. Pichai allegedly remained upbeat in the email, saying that AI has "gone through several winters and springs," adding that the "most essential thing we can do right now is focused on making great products and developing it ethically."
Following the inconsistent debut of Google Bard last week, Google employees described the deployment as hasty and bungled. Microsoft, which is incorporating OpenAI's next-generation ChatGPT technology into its Bing search engine and Edge browser, was putting a lot of pressure on Google.
