The US-based online education company, Coursera revealed that attributing to the increasing demands of budding technology experts, Indians subscribed most for Machine Learning programs in 2018.
The tech-courses available on Coursera are composition of 80 percent of the world's most popular courses. Adjacent to ML courses, Python programming and Artificial Intelligence were the noted programs on the platform.
Raghav Gupta, Director – India and Asia-Pacific asserted in a statement – "Technology is playing a crucial role and transforming the way we work and hence it isn't surprising to see tech courses dominating the list. With an aim to transform lives, we strive to bring about courses to teach the most in-demand skills… Indians place enormous value in the power of education and often perceive it as a means of social and economic mobility. The country is sitting on an untapped goldmine – a demographic dividend in an otherwise ageing world."
He further added – "Though learners from the metros constitute the major learner pie, we see an increasing adoption from learners in tier 2 and 3 cities."
The company unveils that the learners tend to elect the subjects that catch up to their personal development, career advancement and knowledge building. Additionally, only five of the well-known states of the Indian subcontinent including Karnataka, NCR, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh constitute to 59 percent of Coursera subscribers/learners.
India possess the second largest and high geared market for Coursera having approximately 3.7 million learners while 75,000 new subscribers are joining it on monthly schedule. This stages an implication that factors such as affordability, creditability, technological infrastructure, growing acceptance and validation of online certifications and degrees by employers, gyrate the learning masses towards these education programs athwart the nation.
Measuring the global reach, it can be observed that nearly 38 million disciples across the globe taking education from about 160 universities and beyond 20 industry partners.
