Xiaomi India has unveiled the Redmi A4, an entry-level smartphone designed to bring true 5G connectivity to millions of users in India. Priced at just ₹8,499 (with bank offers), this budget-friendly device was first showcased at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) and is set to hit the market on November 27.
The Redmi A4 isn’t the cheapest 5G smartphone, but Xiaomi claims it’s the most feature-packed 5G device in its segment, offering multiple first-in-class features. Anuj Sharma, Xiaomi India’s CMO, emphasized the brand’s commitment to digital inclusion. He stated, “This launch underscores our dedication to empowering entry-level users with the true potential of 5G technology.”
The Redmi A4 is available in two configurations:
- 4GB RAM + 64GB storage for ₹8,499
- 4GB RAM + 128GB storage for ₹9,499
It will be sold on Mi.com, Amazon, Xiaomi retail stores, and through Xiaomi’s retail partners starting November 27.
The Redmi A4 sports a premium design with a glass back and an IP52 rating, ensuring resistance to splashes. Available in Starry Black and Sparkle Purple, the phone offers a large 6.88-inch LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling and gaming. Despite being limited to 720p resolution, the panel delivers 600 nits of brightness, ensuring decent outdoor visibility.
Under the hood, the Redmi A4 is powered by the Snapdragon 4S Gen 2 processor, built on a 4nm architecture for efficiency. This octa-core chip clocks up to 2GHz, ensuring smooth multitasking and gaming for its price range. Paired with LPDDR4x RAM and UFS2.2 storage, the phone offers responsive performance.
The device runs Xiaomi’s latest HyperOS, based on Android 14, with promises of two major OS updates and four years of security updates, ensuring long-term usability.
The Redmi A4 is equipped with a massive 5,160mAh battery, providing “all-day” usage. It supports 18W fast charging, and while the bundled charger is rated at 33W, it adds convenience for other devices.
On the photography front, the Redmi A4 boasts a 50 MP primary camera, capable of capturing detailed shots, paired with a 5MP selfie camera.
The Redmi A4 may not be the cheapest 5G smartphone around, however, it wants to make a name for itself with a healthy mixture of performance, display quality and features that is typically out of this segment. Its Snapdragon 4S Gen 2 processor, 120Hz refresh rate, and longer software support all serve to change the user’s perception of what is possible in a budget smartphone.
As for this year, Xiaomi is not slowing down in the delivery of features with the Redmi A4 in the budget segment. At ₹8,499, it offers real 5G connectivity, and other useful features so it becomes a highly appealing product to users looking to upgrade to the 5G network.
If you are a first-time smartphone buyer or if you are looking for an affordable smartphone that will do the job well then the Redmi A4 5G won’t disappoint.
