As a joke in 2013, software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer created the well-known doge image as the Dogecoin cryptocurrency's logo to mock the irrational speculation in cryptocurrencies at the time.
The bluebird emblem that once adorned the home button in the upper left corner of the Twitter web browser was abruptly changed to a cartoon of the "Shiba Inu," the subject of the Doge meme.
With the adjustment, Dogecoin's late-day trading price on Monday increased to as much as 10.2 cents from approximately 7.7 cents. The cryptocurrency is currently trading 26% higher at 9.8 cents.
According to reports, Musk has already declared his support for Dogecoin and is even currently engaged in a legal dispute related to it.
It's worth noting that the new logo is only visible on Twitter's web browser, not the app. Although there hasn't been any formal correspondence, Twitter CEO Elon Musk provided a screenshot of a conversation he had with an anonymous user in March of last year during which the latter requested that the bird emblem be changed to a "doge."
