Data science is increasingly becoming the forefront of every aspect of life. And with that is increasing the need for data scientists. Becoming a data scientist requires a wide range of skillsets. apart from technical knowledge a data scientist is also required to be a pro in computational abilities, communication skills, machine learning and statistics. The role of a data scientist is more advanced in respect to the possession of more advanced degrees, experience in data analytics and a good computing background. There is nothing to overwhelmed by the list. These skills can be achieved with a tad bit of effort and dedication. We list here some of the skills below.
1. A degree of Masters or a PhD in Data science will be more lucrative. Other than that, an in depth knowledge in Computer science and a strong educational background will also be helpful for building a career as a data scientist. To begin with, subjects like mathematics, statistics, computer science and engineering are also beneficial in gaining the needed knowledge.
2. Mastering diverse technologies are a key to pursuing a successful big data scientist career. Precisely, technologies like R Language, Java, C++, Python programming, Hadoop will be beneficial. Along with these, a good grasp of various NoSQL database technologies like MongoDB, CouchDB, and HBase is also required.
3. A data scientist job role includes large scale data analysis, exploring and mining large datasets and accelerating data-driven innovation a data scientist is required to learn Hadoop. They should also be aware of multiple components of like Distributed File System, MapReduce, pig, hive, swoop, and Flume. These experiences come at an excellent selling point for the data scientists. Experience in cloud tools like Amazon S3 also adds to the value.
4. Along with degrees and technical skills one is required to be equipped with communication skills. It is necessary to master the skills of communicating data driven insights in an appealing manner. These would be helpful in describing the findings in a manner easily deciphered by technical and non technical members. In depth knowledge of various data visualisation tools is also a crucial aspect.
5. Probability and statistics are intertwined with the data scientist's career. Estimation and prediction are integral part of the job role. Using the Statistics one can find anomalies, identify trends and patterns in data, understand dependencies between two or more variables and predict future trends.
6. 3C's drive the role of a data scientist. These 3C's are Curiosity, Common sense and Communication skills. Curiosity will often lead to new innovations and novels ways of finding solutions to a problem. Thinking out of the box with lead to more creative ideas which help them determine where data can add value and bring profit to the organization. Common sense is a highly uncommon factor in the present day. Presence of mind will bring all of the skills together. A great communication skillset will help in conveying message and findings and improve the business development for the organization.
