Unlike regular domain names, which can be accessed using any standard internet browser, Butterfly Protocol domains will not be immediately recognized by a standard browser because they aren't true domains in the traditional sense because they lack a ROOT DNS server managed by IANA, ICANN, and Verisign. After downloading a browser extension, users will be able to visit Butterfly Protocol domains. This will allow the user's browser to perceive Butterfly as an alternate root and successfully load its domains, IPFS-based sites, and DApps. Butterfly Protocol may be used for more than just hosting domain names, and when these use-cases are investigated further, it will be integrated into a number of different applications.
