Bitlight Labs, one of the pioneers in RGB protocol and the Lightning Network infrastructure development and a member of the Board of Trustees of the LNP / BP Association, launched its flagship product, the Bitlight Wallet, on April 27, 2024, at 14:00 UTC. Bitlight Wallet supports RGB assets and is the world's first self-storage Bitcoin wallet. Currently, Bitlight Wallet is in closed beta testing and supports Bitcoin transfers and RGB20 asset transfers, as well as Bitlight Wallet's testing network registry.
According to the official Bitlight Labs website, 319,500 addresses had been registered on the Bitlight Wallet by the time of this report, and this number is still growing. Data monitoring shows that 100,000 addresses registered on the Bitlight Wallet platform within 24 hours of its launch and 200,000 addresses registered within 48 hours. According to Bitlight Labs, they have not implemented any paid marketing strategies, and the fact that the number is growing at such a fast pace is a testament to the enthusiasm of the market for the RGB protocol ecosystem.
It has been announced that Bitlight Labs is currently testing the public version of Bitlight Wallet and is preparing for the official launch of the stable RGB protocol. After the official launch of RGB protocol 0.11, the Bitlight Wallet will be available on the Bitcoin mainnet and will be used as the backbone to store, display, transfer, trade, and issue RGB assets. It is worth noting that the RGB protocol has been developed and managed by the LNP / BP Association, and as one of their six members, Bitlight Labs has contributed a lot to the development of RGB.
RGB is a native intelligent contract layer that is compatible with the Lightning network. Unlike other Bitcoin scalability solutions, RGB does not support a second blockchain. This means that the RGB protocol introduces Turing completeness while preserving Bitcoin's native properties.
RGB emerged from Peter Todd's work on single-use-seals (SUSE) and client-side (CSV) validation. In 2016-2019, Giacomo Zucco coined the term "RGB," and the community used it to describe a better asset protocol to support Bitcoin and the Lightning network. Subsequent developments led to the development of RGB into a full-fledged intelligent contract (ICT) system under the leadership of Maxim Orlovsky, who has been implementing RGB since 2019 with community input.
RGB is a decentralized, private, and secure innovative contract protocol for Bitcoin and Lightning Network. RGB supports private and peer-to-peer ownership, abstractions, and silos of interest. RGB is a Turing-complete, trustless, distributed computing system that does not rely on "tokens."
RGB is a token protocol, not a protocol for issuing and managing tokens. While RGB enables the issuance and management of highly scalable, programmable, and distributed assets of all kinds, it can also be used in many industries beyond the financial sector.
