OpenAI turns off Bing browsing in ChatGPT temporarily due to the legal concerns

OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, released a feature earlier this year that allowed users of the AI chatbot software to browse the web using Bing. The function looked up answers to user inquiries on Bing browsing. However, the business has since informed us that the beta integration would be disabled to resolve an issue.

According to an update from the firm, "ChatGPT Browse with Bing is a beta feature (available to ChatGPT Plus, subscribers) that enables ChatGPT to search the internet to help answer questions that benefit from current information."

"We have learned that the ChatGPT Browse beta can occasionally display content in ways we don't want," the article said, revealing that if a user expressly requests the whole text of a URL, it may mistakenly satisfy this request.

"As of July 3, 2023, we've disabled the Browse with Bing beta feature out of an abundance of caution while we fix this to do right by content owners."

As previously stated, the feature was added for ChatGPT Plus members, which is the AI chatbot's premium tier. Users were reportedly able to circumvent the paywalls by utilizing ChatGPT's Bing interface.

The company also stated that it strives to restore the beta functionality as soon as feasible. Microsoft announced the integration of Bing Search into OpenAI's ChatGPT in May of this year to give more relevant and maybe novel replies.

Browsing With Bing

Browsing, according to the business, is advantageous in cases when questions about current events and other information "extend[s] beyond [ChatGPT's] original training data." This implies that browsing enables the AI chatbot to obtain more accurate and up-to-date information by searching the web. It should be mentioned that if the Browsing option is off, ChatGPT's knowledge will expire in 2021.
