Artificial intelligence is powered by machine-learning algorithms that absorb billions of data points from the internet, including story structure, story logic, and story writing. Based on instructions and guidance, AI can generate scenes, short stories, fanfiction, screenplays, and novels.
GPT-3 is a natural language processor, which means it's trained to try to complete any prompt that it's given. Its training data is basically the entire internet, so given a prompt, like a few paragraphs of text, it will make a guess as to what comes next. These guesses show that GPT-3 can really write. It can write in all sorts of styles, oftentimes as convincingly like a real human author. Like a medium, it can even channel the dead.
AI writers take data and convert it into stories, without needing much human direction. AI writers take textual, statistical, or image data as input to create relevant stories for a target audience. Data comes in various forms, such as scraped from the internet or input in the "brief" section of some AI writers. Many AI writers analyze the writing style of a specific author to detect writing patterns. If enough data is provided, they can even learn how to mimic voice and tone in order to generate content that is unique for each individual author.
In respect to this, Sprudge uncovered a scoop- A new website called Narrative Device will create a paragraph-long story with any two thematic inputs you give it. Narrative Device is the work of Rodolfo Ocampo, a Mexican-born PhD candidate at the University of New South Wales in Australia, that explores "creative augmentation using AI and human-AI creative collaboration," per the website. Using text data from across the internet, the AI has been "trained" to create an opening paragraph based on any two inputs it receives. Ocampo's idea is to see how humans can draw inspiration for stories from an AI-generated starting point.
So, now AI can write stories about coffee?
