Microsoft released an update of Bing Chat just three months after its first release that adds significant new functionality and, in some ways, goes beyond what is possible with ChatGPT.
Bing Chat is no longer in its Limited Preview phase; thus the queue has been removed and everyone now has access. By signing into your Microsoft account, you can use Bing and the Edge browser to access this updated version of Bing Chat. Once there, you'll have access to these 6 new features that significantly increase the capabilities of Bing Chat's AI.
The emphasis on images in Bing Chat is the most obvious change. Bing Chat will now respond to questions using diverse visuals, photographs, and graphics – entirely on its own — rather than just words. These are comparable to the knowledge cards and "visual" search results that are currently included in standard Bing searches. Charts, graphs, and "updated formatting" of responses will now be used in Bing Chat's responses to queries or prompts. This revised layout may feature bold text, bulleted lists, and other elements. Although ChatGPT is already adept at this feature, it's nice to know that Bing Chat supports it as well.
Although multimodal support for GPT-4 was initially announced earlier this year, it has yet to be implemented. Microsoft has announced that Bing Chat will soon be able to accept visual input in addition to text. In reverse, this is comparable to a visual search. Similar to how it can with words, Bing Chat will be able to analyze and engage with images. You can use an image to start a Bing Chat conversation, and you can also add a link and ask a question that is relevant to the context of the image or link. We've seen this approach succeed in initiatives like MiniGPT-4, but having it integrated into the open-source Bing Chat is amazing.
3. Third-Party Plugins
Although ChatGPT Plus has had plugins for a while, having plugins for an entirely free service is novel. Microsoft currently only collaborates with OpenTable, Wolfram Alpha, and Microsoft Math Solver. These add-ons will enhance Bing Chat's responses and provide it with new features, such as the option to book a table at an establishment using OpenTable. Through the Bing Chat Copilot in the Edge browser, users can access these plugins.
Although plugins are not yet accessible, Microsoft promises that further information will be provided at Microsoft Build later in May.
Even though Bing Image Creator has only been available for about a month, getting access to it has been difficult. Although Bing Image Creator has been accessible via bing.com/create, its integration with Edge Copilot has only been somewhat successful. This is crucial because Edge Copilot's integration, which gives you the ability to create visuals depending on chat flow, is much more potent.
Bing Image Creator is now accessible to everyone and is even available in 100 different languages throughout the world. For its text-only chatbot, ChatGPT presently supports 50 languages, but Bing Image Creator's support for more than 100 languages is noteworthy.
5. Export and Share
The capacity to export and share chat information is another recent addition to Bing Chat. Currently, getting content out of ChatGPT requires a lot of copying and pasting, but having the option to export or share your content with just one click should be useful, particularly when working with several word or photo fragments. The format of the discussions does not change when exported.
This, Bing Chat will now also include chat history as a feature. Although ChatGPT has always featured this, since the advent of Bing Chat, it has become the most frequently asked-for feature. As time goes on, chats will become more tailored, according to Microsoft, by "bringing context from a previous chat into new conversations." When started, the chat history will be divided into "recent" and "saved" tabs and appear in the sidebar over Edge.
6. Better Integration into Edge
Microsoft is announcing a new version of the Edge browser in addition to the new chat application. Edge now includes a tonne of additional AI-specific functionality because Microsoft has always linked Bing Chat to it. Although they're all still in beta, this new Copilot feature in Edge allows you to "organize my tabs," which automatically sorts them into groups according to their content and context. You can ask Bing to alter the settings on your browser, or even summarise and analyze lengthy papers or web pages that are now open.
Bing Chat can engage with real-time web content thanks to Edge's tight connection, whereas ChatGPT can only communicate with web content until 2021 or earlier.
This updated version of Edge will include floating tabs with softened corners, semitransparent elements, and a more streamlined appearance in addition to the new AI features.
