Bill Gates shares his opinion on several emergent technologies like Web3, Metaverse, and AI

One of the co-founders of software giant Microsoft, Bill Gates, has expressed his views on the status and applicability of several emerging technologies now under development.

When questioned about the significance of this group of emerging technologies and the parallels they had with the internet in its early years, Gates said that he preferred AI (artificial intelligence) above other options like Web3 and the metaverse.

However, Gates said that his work took different paths since he was more interested in advances like employing ultrasound technology to let expectant mothers know in advance whether they need medical treatment and in treating diseases like anemia and malnutrition.

Gates also spoke candidly about generative AI, a kind of intelligence that can produce original content rather than relying on already published works.

The billionaire takes a dim view on cryptocurrencies, advising individuals with less wealth than Elon Musk to exercise caution while investing in them in February 2021 and explaining in June that they are built on the "greater fool hypothesis." He has been more upbeat about the metaverse's growth, forecasting that by 2021, digital gatherings would switch from 2D visuals to 3D virtual places.

Gates has no present affiliation with Microsoft because he left the business in 2020, but Satya Nadella, the current CEO, appears to share his perspective. According to reports, Microsoft is considering investing US$10 billion in OpenAI, the firm that created the well-known ChatGPT AI bot. This would value the business at US$29 billion.

This action, which would give Microsoft 49% of the company's shares, is a sign of the importance the organization has to the AI industry.
