Data is everywhere, even the water sector has collected reams of data for decades. It has been only within the last few years that agencies, utilities, consultants and vendors woken up to unlock the hidden potential of data resources to manage maintenance and predict water flow. Predictive Analytics integrates data from several similar assets developing designs or operations to develop efficient systems. Interactive dashboards present this information in a manner that is easily understood and decoded for business intelligence.

For example, when a utility company finds that water consumption is zero or almost zero over a long period of time, an alert can signal a technician to find out the discrepancies to examine the situation which may point to a broken or faulty meter, or a house lockout due to a family vacation saving technicians time and money.

In the future, analytics giants like IBM expect predictive algorithms to predict effective utilities planning for demand consumption and supply end. Water is a scare resource and a better management of this resource will save adequately for the future generations.
