Text to Image Generators Are the Next Destination for Photo Editing App Makers

The implementation of the 'Text to Image' feature directly within our apps, opens an entire realm of possibilities says Lightricks CEO

Photos are taken candid, long-shot, side profile and whatever may be the shot, one thing becomes inevitable – photoshopping. When you look at the airbrushed pictures on the glossy magazine pages, it gives us an impression of sophistication with a hint of surreality. Text-to-image generators, which have recently occupied most of the tech-enthusiasts attention, are now foraying into photo-editing and animation. Lightricks, a content creation app, has launched its editing apps solely for editing pictures created by text-to-image generators. It released two AI editing apps, Photoleap and Motionleap to edit the picture and graphics to the pictures respectively. These expression tools require only text-based prompts to manipulate the images. The Isreal based company is known for its photo-editing apps, particularly Facetune, which is used by many Instagram celebrities to retouch their pictures. Its other applications include Photoleap and Videoleap known for seamlessly integrating with conventional photo-editing features. The apps are similar in function to Tik-Tok's AI greenscreen feature that helps generate video backgrounds.

These apps are open-sourced with a paid version and require just one click on the "Generate AI Image" button at the top of the app and a text box appears for users to input the prompt. Users can also try the pre-written prompts which come with the app, and later users can access editing and animation tools on Lightricks' other apps. Advanced editing features such as layering, filters, quick-art, and cut-out tools can be accessed on Photoleap while Motionleap comes with animation tools, 3D motion tools, overlays, and other effects. The text-to-image feature allows free download of any number of images the user wants. However, the pro version, which costs from $4.99 per month to $9.99 per month, will allow downloads of up to 100 high-quality files per month. "AI technology has proven its powerful capabilities when it comes to content creation. The implementation of the 'Text to Image' feature directly within our apps, opens an entire realm of possibilities for our users, giving them limitless opportunities for incredible content creation," Zeev Farbman, CEO, and co-founder of Lightricks, said in a statement to TechCrunch.

As the debate over if AI's work can be granted copyrights isn't yet solved, Lightricks, says the images generated by text-to-image generator only show some likeness to a celebrity that is not copyrightable. With that said, this app becomes something out of the league capable of editing AI-generated images, though not so realistic as the ones generated by DALL-E or Google Imagen. The only issue remains with the app remains NSFW material. According to Lightricks, it blocks its users from requesting NSFW content through Google Cloud Vision API.
