Ready to Embrace Artificial Intelligence in Your Morning Routine?

Healthcare in general is a natural customer for artificial intelligence applications. Healthcare, with its myriad ability to analyse vast numbers of diagnostic images like MRIs, X-rays, CT scans and so on can point doctors and radiologist's attention to the most probable areas of concern thus increasing both the speed and the probability of detection. Dentistry in healthcare is no exception, as it prepares to embrace AI in making patients teeth even brighter and healthier.

A New Beginning with Oral-B

With technology paving way to the new advancements in dentistry, the emergence of a range of AI-enabled tools has led to new products being researched and bought into user experience. A beginning has been made, with tooth care experts at Oral-B, all set to release the new Oral-B Genius X powered with Artificial Intelligence this July. Oral-B Genius X is smart and customised toothbrush which the oral hygiene product major believes is its biggest bet to date. The company has tracked motion research findings monitoring the brushing patterns of thousands of people with the aim to offer them a superior oral care experience.

Oral-B Genius X can be connected to your phone over Bluetooth via the Oral-B app which will detect the position of the brush in your mouth and provide detailed feedback, as well as give you precise reminders as to when to clean your tongue, rinse and floss. The app also gives visual guidance during brushing, making you never miss dental hygiene.

Oral-B smile director and renowned London Cosmetic Dentist, Dr Uchenna Okoye, says that Genius X brush is a great tool which will help users perfect their brushing technique.  Okoye says that she often watches patients who are not brushing correctly and are left spending time to learn the perfect technique to ensure they are looking after their teeth and gums properly at home. The Genius X comes up with a tongue brushing mode to help improve the overall oral health. Often the most odour-causing bacteria are found on the tongue and thus are vitally important to keep the tongue clean too.

Time-constraint brushing Techniques

It is generally witnessed that 80% people spend an insufficient amount of time brushing in at least one zone of their mouths, thus providing a huge scope to personalised dental hygiene opportunities and Genius X might just be the answer.

With the newest capabilities enabled by deep learning techniques, AI will begin to additionally impact dentistry on a clinical level as well. First-hand experience with development stage technologies have demonstrated AI's potential value into everyday practice. These tools have the potential to recognize things on images which may be missed by even the most experienced dentists. Furthermore, the results can be in near real-time, fast enough to be incorporated live into a busy practice workflow.

Applying deep learning image analysis to oral cancer will lead to earlier detection and more accurate diagnoses with lifesaving implications.

Another aspect of dentistry is the niche single use cases, for instance especially when a single tooth is missing.  AI can help with evidence-based decision-making by quickly analysing data including underlying conditions, radiological scans, and any other patient-related information. These developments will ultimately arm dentists with the answer to challenging situations which arise with the darn of the new day.

Oral-B Genius X Toothbrush, £340; will be available from July 2019 at Oralb.co.uk, and if you are interested to join the waiting list queue, check the website and Happy Brushing!
