Paralyzed Woman Regains Voice with AI Help

Ann, a woman who suffered a brainstem stroke that left her unable to speak, has regained her voice with the help of artificial intelligence. Researchers at UC San Francisco and UC Berkeley developed a brain-computer interface (BCI) to decode her brain signals for speech and facial expressions and synthesize them into audible speech using a digital avatar. The BCI uses electrodes implanted in Ann's brain and artificial neural networks to translate her thoughts into words and emotions. The system can also convert her brain signals into text at nearly 80 words per minute. This is a breakthrough for people with severe paralysis who cannot communicate naturally.

US Tech Firms Concerned by India's Import Rules

Apple Inc. and Intel Corp. are two significant US businesses that have expressed concern over India's unexpected introduction of import restrictions on technology. Eight well-known American trade groups representing major figures in manufacturing and technology have banded together in response to the action and expressed their displeasure in a joint letter to US government officials.
