How old are you? Well, this question never leaves your side no matter how old you get. You feel happy to answer it till the age you don't really want people to know and if you are under age then social media platforms get replaced by people. But this time Instagram has something different planned for everyone. Instagram is testing new age verification methods including asking followers to vouch for your age and even using Artificial Intelligence (AI) that can estimate your age via a video selfie. It's part of a push to ensure users are at least the minimum 13 years old and "to make sure that teens and adults are in the right experience for their age group," it announced.
Currently, Instagram asks users to verify their age only when teenagers try to edit their birth date to show them as 18 or older. To verify their age, users can send in pictures of various ID cards, and, from today, users in the US will have two additional options: social vouching and AI estimation.
Users in the US can also send pictures of supported ID cards to verify their ages for Instagram. The company is also using another method called social vouching. That involves three people who are 18 or older that are followers of a user. They have to confirm the age of that user if they get a request from Instagram within three days.
Instagram is also checking user posts after they are admitted for additional verification, such as if a person who claims to be 20 years old posts about celebrating their 16th birthday. It is even testing a method based on a person's written posts, to see if they write like a teenager or an adult, although we certainly see lots of adults on Instagram writing like they were teens.
