Cyberthugs Use AI Voice Cloning Scams Women in Lucknow

IndustryTrends

In yet another incidence of voice cloning using AI, cyber hackers scammed a woman out of Rs 32,000 by informing her that her sister's daughter was ill.

According to police, Rajlakshmi Dohre of Subhash Nagar received a call from an unfamiliar cellphone number, and the caller presented himself as her brother-in-law Dharmendra.

The caller informed her that his daughter had been hospitalized to a hospital and that he needed financial assistance since he was unable to pay her medical fees.

He informed the woman that he tried to pay the hospital bill twice, but the UPI transaction did not go through.

He suggested that Rajlakshmi transmit the money to the same mobile number from which he was phoning. The woman became terrified and sent Rs 32,000.
