Meta Revises AI Image Labels After Photographer Feedback

Shiva Ganesh

Earlier this year, Meta introduced a label for images generated by AI as "Made with AI" following criticism from its Oversight Board

Photographers complained that the label was being applied to images that were not generated by AI but had minor edits, leading to confusion

In response to the feedback, Meta changed the label to "AI Info" to better align with people's expectations and provide more context

Meta uses technical metadata standards like C2PA and IPTC to detect the use of AI tools in photos, which will continue despite the label change

Meta is working with companies across the industry to improve the process so that the labeling approach matches their intent
