Famous play-to-earn games, Decentreland and The Sandbox are facing a spine-chilling crypto winter this year. In the last day alone, these metaverse games only received around 1375 active users (that made transactions), according to DappRadar.
DappRadar monitors the number of unique wallet addresses that interact with Decentraland's and The Sandbox's smart contracts and paints an opposite picture to what these blockchain games may claim.
Despite the frightening statistics, Decentreland and The Sandbox still somehow lead the play-to-earn token market with their native tokens MANA and SAND. Both of which make up a market capitalization of $2 billion. If this is how the best play-to-earn blockchain games perform, then it begs the question how many active transacting players use lesser-known crypto games?
As the winter looms ahead, there may be some hope for Decentraland and The Sandbox yet. Unlike any crypto protocol before it, Feed3, a feedback-to-earn project, has the potential to save the blockchain gaming industry due to its benefits for both players and developers.
Decentraland is the market-leading blockchain game, and yet its significance has worn off over time. The virtual world is fully owned by its users, making it a DeFi space. Players can create, explore and trade within Decentraland. The gist of the game is to create experiences or art on a piece of virtual LAND that can then be sold.
Players of Decentraland have been quick to point out that even if there is money to generate, the game could use further development. Problems such as voice chat cuts, significant lag and outdated graphics have contributed to the reduction of Decentraland's activity over time.
The Sandbox, the second most successful crypto game, can share and trade assets such as NFTs. The blockchain game has a much more blocky aesthetic than Decentreland and has recently partnered with the likes of Gucci and Ubisoft. During its peak, The Sandbox had almost 4 thousand daily active users, making its measly 710 surprising.
The first feedback-to-earn protocol on the blockchain, Feed3, offers a simple solution to Decentreland's and The Sandbox's declining numbers. By allowing players to voice their feedback and gain payment in the form of FD3 tokens, developers can also focus cost-effectively on the areas of their games that need improving.
Built on the fast and economic Binance Smart Chain, Feed3 has already partnered with mega blockchain games: Axie Infinity, Upland, Mobox and Lightnitex. Ultimately, even if a game is play-to-earn, it still needs to retain the same rewarding experience of playing a mainstream game. This is essential for retaining players and generating revenue. Additionally, the improvement of a blockchain game's quality could even attract traditional gamers to the market.
Although a bear market is occurring, Feed3 could help crypto games such as Decentraland and The Sandbox improve their player experiences, and as a result, draw in and retain more active players.
