Anthropic officially released the Claude desktop applications for both Mac and Windows, allowing users to download and install the app.

Currently available in beta, it gives users early access to the Anthropic AI assistant as well as Claude 3.5 Sonnet, amplifying the entire functionality. The company has followed suit of its other competitors like OpenAI and Perplexity which have published native Mac OS applications.

Better User Experience

Recently, Anthropic announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the new desktop apps have been developed to give users a faster, more focused experience for deep work.

For Windows users, the company released two separate versions, namely x64 and arm64, which would be compatible with most systems. Users can also open the app from any screen quickly using the shortcut Ctrl + Alt + Space, thereby streamlining the user experience.

Easy Access to AI Features

The app, macOS edition, gives users easy access to Anthropic's AI assistant and the Claude 3.5 Sonnet AI model.

Computer Use Tool

The Computer Use tool remains to be rolled out for Claude, dedicated desktop app rollout is imperative to make the feature usable.

The other distinguishing advantage of the Computer Use tool is its capability of using Claude to complete more demanding tasks on a computer screen, almost simulating what a human being can.
This includes the capacity to simulate keystrokes, clicks of buttons, and mouse movements, which will allow new possibilities for productivity.

When computer vision capabilities are added, Claude might even interpret information on the screen and perform appropriate actions in order to get desired results from the user.

Voice Mode and Additional Features

Moreover, the new desktop applications for both Mac and Windows introduce the voice mode. However, Anthropic didn't give much information related to the size of the app, what permissions will be required for the application or specific versions.
