Apple has rolled out Final Cut Pro 11, a major update to its video editing software, now available for both Mac and iPad users. Packed with advanced AI-powered features, the latest version aims to streamline editing workflows, empowering creators with tools like Magnetic Mask, Transcribe to Captions, and spatial video capabilities. These updates also capitalize on Apple’s powerful M-series chips, offering enhanced performance and efficiency for video editing professionals and enthusiasts.

One of the standout new features is Magnetic Mask, an AI-driven tool that lets editors isolate people and objects in a video without needing a green screen or extensive rotoscoping. By combining Magnetic Masks with colour correction and video effects, editors gain more control over their footage, allowing for more precision in stylizing and customizing each project.

Another notable feature is Transcribe to Captions, a tool that automatically transcribes spoken words to on-screen captions. This addition helps improve accessibility and engagement, especially for viewers who prefer watching content with captions or for social media videos where captions are key.

Final Cut Pro 11’s compatibility with the Apple Vision Pro further enhances its appeal. Editors can import and edit spatial video directly for the Vision Pro, making it possible to adjust depth, add effects, and make colour corrections on immersive content. They can also preview videos in left-eye and right-eye modes on Mac for added precision. Additionally, Mac Virtual Display provides an ultra-wide curved display, equivalent to two 5K monitors, allowing for an expansive and immersive editing experience ideal for complex workflows.

Apple has also extended Final Cut Pro’s support to new devices, such as the iPhone 15 Pro models, iPhone 16, and Canon’s R7 camera, expanding options for editors working with diverse footage. Spatial videos created on Final Cut Pro can be exported to the Photos library, viewed on Vision Pro, or shared via the visionOS Vimeo app, ensuring easy accessibility for creators and their audiences.

To further streamline workflows, Magnetic Timeline enables a trackless editing approach, keeping video and audio in sync while allowing for seamless clip adjustments. With improved multicam editing, users can quickly switch between shots, synchronizing multiple camera angles with ease. Enhanced proxy tools also allow editors to create lightweight copies of their projects, which can save space and speed up transfers.

This update demonstrates Apple’s commitment to advancing video editing, blending powerful AI with enhanced hardware capabilities, making Final Cut Pro 11 a robust tool for creators.
