Google has officially begun seeding the stable version of Android 15 to eligible Pixel smartphones and tablets, including its latest flagship, the Pixel 9 series. This update brings several new features focused primarily on enhancing security and improving user experience particularly for foldable devices like the Pixel Fold.

Though Google is usually at the forefront of pushing Android updates, it arrived slightly later this time, with brands like Vivo and iQOO already releasing Android 15-based updates for some devices. However, Google makes up for the delay with a robust feature set aimed at boosting privacy and usability across its Pixel lineup.

New Features in Android 15 for Pixel Devices

1. Enhanced Security with Theft Detection Lock

The star feature of Android 15 for Pixel users is the AI-powered Theft Detection Lock. This feature uses artificial intelligence to detect when a device has been stolen. If the phone senses it has been grabbed and someone is fleeing with it, the device will automatically lock. Additionally, if a SIM card is removed, the phone will require authentication to continue functioning. Without successful authentication, the device locks itself, making it unusable to potential thieves. These security enhancements are crucial for users who want more peace of mind.

2. Private Space for App Management

Another new feature is Private Space, which allows users to hide specific apps from their app drawer. This feature, already available on custom Android skins like Samsung’s OneUI, is making its debut on Pixel devices. Apps hidden in Private Space can only be accessed with authentication, providing users with an extra layer of privacy and control over their apps.

3. Multitasking Improvements on Foldable Devices

For users of foldable devices like the Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Android 15 introduces a more streamlined multitasking experience. Now, users can pin apps or app pairs to the taskbar, allowing for faster and more convenient app switching. This feature enhances the utility of larger, foldable screens, making it easier to use multiple apps simultaneously without disrupting workflow.

4. New Camera and Connectivity Enhancements

Android 15 includes enhancements to the already powerful camera of the Pixel ’s phone as well. The update could add Low Light Boost feature which makes users able to take pictures with better clarity in the dark, as well as in-app camera controls for better adjustment of photo parameters. Moreover, a few qualified phone models will also receive an update providing satellite features like satellite based messaging in the areas where there is no mobile service.

Eligible Pixel Devices

A total of 13 Pixel devices are eligible for the Android 15 update, ensuring a broad range of users can access these new features. This includes recent releases such as the Pixel 9 series, the Pixel Tablet, and foldable devices like the Pixel Fold. If you’ve purchased a Pixel phone in the past few years, it’s highly likely your device is compatible with Android 15.

For Google Pixel users, the Android 15 update is a huge leap as it brings better security features such as AI theft detection, features enhancements with foldable phones and new additions to the camera. Safe and secure means that this update here is useful for anyone who is holding an eligible device as it enhances user data privacy as well as offers a better experience.
