Amazon has recently announced the launch of its AI shopping assistant, Rufus in India.

Rufus is currently available in beta, for select Android and iOS devices. People will be able to get product recommendations and shopping advice from Rufus.

Minimising Decision Fatigue

The wide array of choices available nowadays can make a consumer exhausted while trying to choose. Rufus will solve this problem by letting the users ask for particular products and categories. For instance, users can ask for tips when purchasing a washing machine, or if they should spend money on a fitness band or smartwatch.

The AI assistant will provide insights based on user preferences and suggest products from an enormous catalogue on Amazon.

Mixed Results with Product Recommendations

In tests, whenever the users asked Rufus about smartwatches with the best battery life, they recommended the OnePlus Watch. However, the AI-powered assistant has received feedback of not always giving specific answers and sometimes skipping over the latest models offered in the market.

If the users asked to find an affordable foldable smartphone, the Amazon AI shopping assistant recommended the OnePlus Open, which is a good option. However, it sometimes recommends older devices like Asus Zenfone 9 and Realme 9 Pro+ too.

Thus, many users found that they were getting better product recommendations from directly searching on Amazon rather than using Amazon’s Rufus.

Customer Support and Commitment to Improvement

Amazon continues to develop the AI-powered capabilities of Rufus. Hence, showing the company’s commitment towards improving the quality of products and customer satisfaction. The company has requested users having issues with Rufus to contact Amazon’s customer support and seek their assistance.

Amazon continues to take the lead with Rufus in integrating AI technology into its services, following the launch of features such as summarised reviews and personalised recommendations.
